Inspiration #20

This week’s inspiration stays in the kitchen. Perhaps because I’m battling a cold right now that has me wanting everything clean, but these simple, white kitchens are really speaking to me this week.

This is the latest in a weekly post of residential architecture inspiration. If you want to see past weeks, you can go here. If you want to see them curated on my pinterest (sometimes before they even hit the blog), go here.

This white kitchen is the perfect mix of old and new. I love the worn look of the floor with the clean, white tile and the muted pop of color in the cabinets. I wish there was a better detail of the edge of counter condition at the doorway, but c’est la vie.

So clean. So crisp. I don’t think the walls of this white kitchen would stay clean without the help of a housekeeper because I’d constantly be running my hands along them, thrilled by their smooth finish. The simple range hood in the island wall allows it to blend into the space and not take hierarchy. The deep windows bounce light and look perfect for an afternoon book.

I can picture many a boisterous evening with friends around this massive island in this bright white kitchen. It appears to have a ton of storage, but the monochrome color means you don’t feel surrounded by cabinets.

The lightness of this white kitchen goes from floor to painted ceiling. This image definitely helps in my decisions as to whether to replace the horrible wood panel ceiling in my kitchen or leave it exposed and paint it. This looks so refreshing.

Every white kitchen needs a little contrast. Or in this case a lot. Are chalkboard walls still a thing? I’m torn, although I like the idea of a place to continually draw new things.

If I don’t do a chalkboard wall, I’ll definitely be doing something like this to contrast the white kitchen style. This is what people mean when they talk about form and function meeting.
