Inspiration #26

This week’s inspiration stays in the bathroom. The new master bath layout in #ThisOldHouse will have the sink, toilet, and shower grouped together in a 7′ x 8′ space, so I’m trying to figure out how to make a linear bathroom layout that feels open and spacious.

This is the latest in a weekly post of residential architecture inspiration. If you want to see past weeks, you can go here. If you want to see them curated on my pinterest (sometimes before they even hit the blog), go here.

This design takes the linear bathroom to a whole new level. The chair-rail-height tile line that continues through the space emphasizes the length, while also making it feel very open with the bright whites and glass divider.

This Hamptons house is so, so bright. While it appears spacious, this linear bathroom maximizes its small footprint with reflective surfaces and minimal fixtures.

This very narrow linear bathroom has a variety of materials, which could make it busy and hectic, but it’s done so well that it feels calming and normal.

This linear bathroom in Japan has beautifully simple lines and clean transitions. I can only imagine how refreshed you feel preparing for work or bed in this space.

While not quite a linear bathroom layout, the glass divider allows this funky, modern space to feel open and clean. I love the pop of color, but can imagine I would be tired of it quickly.

Another layout that breaks the linear bathroom mold, but it’s an interesting concept on the sink counter becoming a shelf counter in the shower. The darker colors here would probably feel cool in the summer, but perhaps too cold in the dark Midwest winters.
