Inspiration #44

Happy Friday! Last week we covered the modern wooden gate for the side of the house, but I wanted to also look at some modern wire fence options for that side location. There’s a double-edged sword of security: the solid wood gate provides potential security from exterior intruders, but it also blocks line of sight. If for some reason someone gets past the side gate, it might be important to be able to see from the street to prevent break-ins.

This is the latest in a weekly post of residential architecture inspiration. If you want to see past weeks, you can go here. If you want to see them curated on my pinterest (sometimes before they even hit the blog), go here.

I’m trying to be as sustainable and resourceful in the #L2HQ renovation, so the coordination with plant life that wire provides is wonderful. A modern wire fence might provide a place for flowering vines to grow as well as safety sightlines.

A more traditional modern wire fence connection to its wooden sister that provides function and safety. This is a wider gate scenario than I have space for, but the hog wire is a relatively cheap and simple installation.

Another version of a modern wire fence with hog wire infill. This style could be incorporated at #L2HQ with the renovated chain link to wood side fence with a little bit of coordination.

This modern wire fence goes metal all the way! This would have a longevity and minimal maintenance that is wonderful to think about, but the fact that it is all metal has a higher upfront cost than the recycled wood for a modern wood fence.

Yes, please! This modern wire fence integrates metal and wood wonderfully. The hog wire allows flowering vines to grow while the wood door provides security of entry. The only downside of this design is the vertical door planks.

This modern wire fence checks all the boxes. The side metal inserts provide sight lines, the wood frame is minimal and doesn’t draw the eye too significantly, and the horizontal wood fence gate with hidden hardware provides safety for #L2HQ.
