Inspiration #59: Outdoor Movie Night

Another week has flown by and the weather here is trying to decide if it wants to be summer. Being at home during this shelter-in-place is making me think of ways to use the backyard at L2HQ – including for our increased movie and show time at night. This week, let’s look at some outdoor movie night inspiration to jazz up the options of where the Netflix binge happens!

This is the latest in a weekly post of residential architecture inspiration. If you want to see past weeks, you can go here. If you want to see them curated on my pinterest (sometimes before they even hit the blog), go here.

I think this is what bohemian heaven looks like. Airy paper lights, assorted pillows thrown about, a hammock, a variety of wicker furniture – this outdoor movie night is pulling out all the comfy stops.

This outdoor movie night setup is a *bit* more built-in, but the movie aspect of it could have easily been a later addition. None of it is something that’s easy on the budget, but it definitely looks like a cool place to relax and watch a show after a long day of work.

Another built-in setting for an outdoor movie night, but this option has some interesting designs for seating that can dissolve into the deck. I only wish they had made the hatches blend more with the surrounding deck.

A wonderfully calming backyard patio design can turn into an outdoor movie night with the simple addition of a portable projector screen, as this backyard shows. It doesn’t have to be a big investment to take your Netflix-watching outside.

Another portable screen added to a backyard setup turns an outdoor dining room into a movie theater. You don’t really need that much to make it happen.

Last but not least, this outdoor movie night has a bit more light than I think I’d want during movie time, but it sure is inviting. Hopefully, these images have given you some inspiration – enjoy your weekend cuddled up and staying safe. Let me know in the comments what you’re watching this weekend!
