Inspiration #55: Modern vertical fence

It’s been awhile, but let’s jump back in. It’s almost summer and my brain is dreaming of continued backyard projects. Specifically, I’ve been thinking through the possibility of a modern vertical fence design for a south fence on my property that needs replaced to keep the girlfriend’s dog in the yard (because she only minds herself and loves chasing all variety of small animals). It’s an annoying problem, but it presents itself with a design question – so let’s look at some inspiration images for a possible solution!

This is the latest in a weekly post of residential architecture inspiration. If you want to see past weeks, you can go here. If you want to see them curated on my pinterest (sometimes before they even hit the blog), go here.

There are a few “requirements” for the replacement modern vertical fence design: provide a secure fence line that keeps said mischievous dog inside the yard, allow sunlight to still flow into the yard, and – most importantly – look great.

This modern vertical fence is well-built and detailed, with a minimal top cap and bar connecting each of the vertical slats. It’s overbuilt for my needs, but is a great backyard design solution.

Another great modern vertical fence design, with a very defined start and stop point. This fence is taller and denser than needed at #L2HQ, but gosh it’s beautiful. I wouldn’t mind working from home if I could do so from this backyard oasis.

I could just stare at this modern vertical fence pattern all day. This repetition is just so soothing to the eyes.

Starting to look at feasible details, this modern vertical fence design shows the beauty in the precision of a consistent screw connection location.

The spacing of the vertical slats on this modern vertical fence allows for light and vision without compromising security. I think we’re getting closer to a solution!

The #L2HQ fence line will get updated along the alley, so it’s important to consider gate and hardware access. This gate has more metal than I’ll likely incorporate, but what a great modern vertical fence continuation.
